This need was identified by a group of students from a local school district when there was a physical altercation by the school principal on a thirteen year old female student. When identified, the students then walked-out of school to voice their frustration and be heard with a list of demands and “picketed” for six weeks. Six weeks later the youth formed an educational center, a non-profit educational organization. The parents and youth were involved and participated on the organizations board to set policy and procedures. They wrote the mission statement and drew the logo. A couple of days later wrote the By-laws and Article of Incorporation. As the community’s needs grew so did the organization. With strong base of dedicated volunteers, and financial support from individuals, businesses, and grants the youth were empowered to pursue a mission and cause.
